A - Types of Leadership

Every day we come across leaders in school, business, and life, and each has their own unique approach to managing others. The way people use their power and authority differs from person to person, but there are some recurring patterns. In business theory, there are two main types of leaders: instrumental and expressive. Instrumental leaders are very demanding individuals. Leaders of this type expect their employees to be professional and focused on work rather than on relationships with their colleagues. In contrast, expressive leaders are concerned about employee well-being. They believe strong relationships and a positive work environment improve a group's overall productivity.

After explaining the topic, the interlocutor may ask you questions like these ones:

Problem-solving situations

1 - A company is missing deadlines, and employees say expectations are unclear. Which type of leader would be more effective in this situation, and what specific actions should they take to solve the problem?

2 - A team has high productivity, but there is constant conflict and low motivation among employees. How could an expressive leader address this problem, and what risks might exist if the situation is handled incorrectly?

3 - Imagine a new manager applies only instrumental leadership in a team that values collaboration and emotional support. What problems might appear, and how could the manager adjust their leadership style to improve results?

B - Discuss

In this part of the evaluation, you have to look at the picture and answer the questions by interacting with the interlocutor.

When you are ready, say ‘OK,’ and the interlocutor will read the questions. Answer them orally, and then share your opinion with him.

A - Renewable energy

While the global transition towards renewable energy has accelerated over the past decade, significant obstacles remain that impede its full integration into national energy grids. Unlike conventional fossil fuel sources, renewable technologies such as wind and solar power are inherently intermittent, requiring sophisticated storage solutions and flexible infrastructure to ensure a consistent supply. Additionally, the geopolitical implications of renewable energy adoption cannot be overlooked: as countries pivot away from oil and gas dependence, new forms of competition and cooperation are emerging around critical resources like rare earth elements used in photovoltaic cells and battery technologies. Policymakers face the complex task of designing frameworks that incentivize innovation while simultaneously safeguarding energy security and affordability. Ultimately, the shift towards renewables is not solely a technological undertaking but a multifaceted transformation encompassing environmental, economic, and social dimensions.
